It's generally assumed that the 'Bride' will handle all things wedding related. Over the years of planning weddings and talking to couples, the new-age 'Groom' is more than happy to be involved in the wedding planning process.
At AKA, we make it a point to take the Grooms' inputs into account and encourage them to voice their thoughts at our meetings. Here are a few things to keep in mind when allocating or designating responsibility to your future hubby :
At AKA, we make it a point to take the Grooms' inputs into account and encourage them to voice their thoughts at our meetings. Here are a few things to keep in mind when allocating or designating responsibility to your future hubby :
- Is he creative? If your Groom has PhotoShop skills - get him to design an engagement announcement card / save the date / RSVP card and have it sent out to family and friends. He's bound to follow-up with guests (and drop in a mention that he designed the car himself) - which means you'll know your RSVP count for the wedding.
- If Numbers are his forte - hand over the Wedding Budget to him. A man likes to be in charge of the finances. Managing the wedding budget will ensure that he knows how both your (and your folks) hard earned money is being spent.
- Is he a smooth talker ? Ask him to work out the prices with vendors, and see what kinds of "extras" he can manage to get included in your packages.
- Is he a Music Buff ? Have him research different DJs, bands and musicians that you could have perform at your wedding. Have him arrange for the two of you to go out on "dates" to take notes and compare. Once you choose your musicians, he should take charge of providing them with a list of the tunes you both want to hear (and don't want to hear).
- Drink A'Clock. Get the Groom to put together the Bar Menu for your functions. He can have a night out with his boys and pick out the drinks to serve. Besides, as long as he has his own 'signature' drink - he'll be pretty thrilled.
- If your guy’s a “foodie,” let him determine the menu. Which guy says no to food ? He'll be more than happy to accompany you for food tasting sessions if it means that he has a say in what's on the menu :)
- Is he a secret fashionista?: Have him enjoy choosing his own big-day ensemble, whether it’s a linen tux for a beach wedding or a black tux paired with a colorful vest for a more formal affair.
- In regular “wedding update” meetings, get his input on decisions: As time goes on and the big day gets closer, he’ll become more and more involved with the details of the day—and that’s just as it should be. After all, the wedding is about both of you !
Whilst we understand that not every Groom has the time to be heavily involved in the wedding planning process - these are just a few ways to get your Groom to be part of the process.
How are you getting your Groom involved in the wedding planning process ?
