8 Style Trends For The Modern Indian Groom

Who says weddings are just about the Bride ?  The modern groom is almost as into his wedding styling as his beautiful bride-to-be.  The Indian fashion designers are creating eclectic ranges of groomswear from modernizing the rural dhoti to Indo-Western creations to signature suits !  Grooms can now coordinate their colours with their beau; choose from various silhouettes - and even opt for funky prints !!

The new age groom is all about style and is happy to experiment with different looks. Here are 8 Style Trends that we are going to see the 2016 Groom follow :

Designer Sherwani
Gone are the days when Sherwanis were only beige, white and maroons.  We're seeing grooms getting comfortable wearing anything from the trending Limpet Grey shades right down to brighter tones in the Serenity Blue family. Grooms are giving the intricate details of hand embroidered jardosi and kundan a miss, and are opting for a more regal look i.e with the brooches and tiered necklaces and going for a more sophisticated look.

Jodhpuri Bandgalas
Bandgalas has been the trendsetter for the year 2015 and it is continuing to the trend for 2016 as well. The bandgalas end near the hips and it gives the contemporary and royal look to the groom (which is no surprise as this style originated by the Maharajas way back when!).  This is the traditional cousin of the Western Suit and can be paired with straight fit pants, dhotis and trousers as well.

Dhotis Gone Wild
The rural dhoti has become a huge trendsetter with the new age groom.  Grooms are open to the experimental look that the designer dhoti offers - comfort and breathing room ! It's definitely one way to make a style statement !

Printed Waistcoats
Printed Waistcoats breaks the monotony of menswear and adds the interesting details to the groom's attire. Wear a plain kurta during a mehendi ceremony and deck it up with the printed or ombre tone waistcoat - and stand out from the crowd !

Printed Safas
Safas ? Trendy ? Yup !! We're not talking about the traditional "bandhani" or "lehariya" safas found in Rajasthan and Punjab.  The rage for 2016 Safas are all about prints !

Velvet Rules !
This plush fabric has been around for years now and it doesn't look like it's going out of fashion anytime soon ! Not only is this rich material absolutely decadent and regal - it can be used in so many ways to add that extra oomph to the Royal Groom ! Think velvet appliques on jackets, velvet waistcoats and velvet vests.

Accessorize
It's not just the modern brides that accessorize their wedding outfits; the new-age groom is doing the same !! Whether it's something as eclectic as adding a feather to the safa; to wearing an ornate brooch; to embellished Swarovski or polki buttons on your waistcoat or sherwani - it's the attention to details that make the new-age groom stand out !  But don't go overboard - limit yourself to 3 accessories at the most !

Tie Pins / Cufflinks / Collar Brooch / Bow Tie / Socks / Lapel Flower / Tie

Safa /  Polki Buttons / Pocket Square

Footwear Maketh The Man
Whilst the traditional jootis, mojris & kolhapuri chappals are still quite popular with grooms; 2016 sees the modern groom opting for embellished shoes.  With more and more designers offering customized shoes for grooms - it's no wonder that we're seeing funky versions of the traditional mojri making their way in the 'must-have photos' for couples!
